Why You Should Visit Waimea Canyon More Than Once

While visiting Kauai, if you have the time, I highly recommend visiting Waimea Canyon/Koke’e State Park twice. I will show you why.

The first day we visited there was dense cloud coverage. All you could see was a giant wall of cloud. I knew that we were supposed to be able to see the ocean from here,

Sailing and Snorkeling Along the Napili Coast in Kauai

There are a variety of sailing/snorkeling tours of the famed Napili Coast offered on the island. Most tours leave from Port Allen, on the south side of Kauai. We choose Blue Dolphin Charters because they guarantee dolphin sightings on their morning tour.

The landscape at the beginning of the tour is quite stark and barren.

Visiting Allerton Gardens in Kauai

While Allerton Gardens is most well known as a filming site for Jurassic Park (the ‘Raptor eggs’ were found in the trunks of the Moreton Bay Fig Trees) the grounds are vast and varied featuring exotic plants, sculptures and water features.

The gardens were originally designed by Queen Emma,

Visiting Opaeka’a Falls and the Wailua River Overlook in Kauai

One of the easiest waterfalls to visit in Kauai are the Opaeka’a Falls.

A trio of falls that drop 151 feet to a pool below are definitely worth taking a drive to gaze upon. There is a decent size parking lot, a large viewing area and restrooms.

The Best Helicopter Tour on Kauai

There is no better way to witness the beauty of Kauai than by taking a helicopter ride.

We chose Mauna Loa Helicopter Tours for two reasons. One, we wanted a private tour. My husband had a less than optimal experience on our group ride in Hawaii several years back.

Visiting Spouting Horn Park

The Spouting Horn blowhole is located near the end of Lawai Road at Spouting Horn Park. It is directly south of the McBryde Botanical Garden.

The blowhole is created by water rushing into an underwater lava tube and escaping in an explosive burst through an opening in the rock.

The Lookout Points at Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park

While I recommend spending at least two days at Waimea Canyon State Park, if you only have time for one day, make sure you stop at all of the lookout points. Be sure to include the two lookout points in Kokee State Park, as well.

The first outlook you will come to is the most popular.
