Oceanfront Accommodations in Hana

If you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful, oceanfront property to spend a few nights in Hana, you must check out Hana Kai Maui Condos.  The property offers 17 units, ranging from studios to 2 bedroom/2 bath units. Five of them have unobstructed views of Hana Bay. The remaining 12 have partial ocean views. As it was just my husband and I traveling, we chose the oceanfront studio unit and were thrilled with our experience.

When you enter the unit, a small, recently renovated kitchen is to your right. It is completely stocked with stove, mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, plates, cups, utensils, pots, pans….everything you need should you choose to make your own meals. There are two grocery stores in Hana, the Hana Ranch Store and Hasegawa General Store, less than a 5 minute drive from the condo, where you will find what you need to prepare your own meals….at a price.  We chose to eat at the Hana Ranch Restaurant, Barefoot Cafe and our favorite Huli Huli Chicken.

You will notice the louvered windows in the kitchen. There were also two sets of louvered windows on the front door, and one in the bathroom. The condos do not have air conditioning, but when you open the windows on the west side of the unit and the patio doors on the east side, there is a beautiful breeze that flows through the unit. Our stay was in April, and we did not have any issues with being too hot, I am not sure if it is a problem in the summer. There is also a lovely pond with waterfalls in front of the unit, which you can hear trickling in the unit if you keep the louvers open.

When you enter the condo, the bathroom will be to your left. It is just a basic bathroom in this unit. The only thing I found a little odd was the window in the bathroom is in the shower. It is frosted, so you can not see in to the bathroom, but you need to close them when you shower, as they open to the walkway that runs to all of the units’ front doors.

Walking further into the unit, a small table with two chairs will be to your left.  The unit has wood floors, bamboo walls and rattan furniture. It truly has a tropical island feel to it.

The sitting area is located along the back wall of the unit and adjacent to the dining area and the lanai. Across from the sitting area is a queen size bed, which looks out onto the lanai with its perfect view of the bay.

The lanai was our favorite part of the condo. It has the perfect view of Hana Bay, with its black sand beach, constant waves and spectacular sunrises every morning. We spent every morning and every evening out on the lanai, savoring each and every moment. I loved it so much, I could actually imagine myself living there.

Listening to the waves lull us to sleep every night was pure heaven. We were so delighted to arrive to this view after our long day spent exploring the The Road to Hana. It offered us a picture perfect location to relax and unwind before our next day’s adventures to Ohe’o Gulch (also known as the Seven Sacred Pools), Pipiwai Trail Trail (through a bamboo forest), Waimoku Falls, Hamoa Beach, and Kaihalulu Bay (also known as the Red Sand Beach). As I said, I wish we would have spent at least one additional day/night here, two nights wasn’t enough. Don’t short change yourself by rushing down the Road to Hana, allow yourself the luxury of soaking in the peace and tranquility that Hana has to offer.

A final note on the condos. The grounds were gorgeous and well maintained. The units were clean and well stocked. The staff was helpful, polite and cheerful. They even signed for and stored our luggage that was delivered to us on our second day in Hana. On the back lawn there are some lawn chairs, a picnic table, an area to barbecue and a two tiered koi pond with a small waterfall feature. I would absolutely stay here again.

If you choose to stay here, their website recommends booking directly through their site to save yourself service fees. Their website also has great pictures of each available unit, as they are all quite different. As always, wishing you happy travels and fantastic adventures in this thing called life.
