The Weller Lake Trail is a 1.1 mile, out and back hike, ending at the breathtaking Weller Lake. From the parking lot, you can hear rushing water.

We are crossing over The Roaring Fork River, which does not ‘Roar’ at the North Star Nature Preserve.
The trail is alongside the river, in parts, so you are able to listen to the water cascading as you hike.

You will be gaining 232 feet in elevation as you hike through a pine and aspen forest.

Due to some steep and rocky sections, the hike is rated moderate.

You are free to climb around the boulders, at your own risk, to get another vantage point.
Things to Know Before You Go
- It is free to hike here, parking is free as well, but limited.
- The trail is only accessible part of the year, generally May through September.
- The trail is located in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness of the White River National Forest.
- The lake elevation is 9,555 feet. You may tire more easily if you are not used to hiking in the mountains.
- The mountains in the background are approximately 12,000 feet.
- There is a campground here. It’s first come, first served, and is very popular. You can check here for more information.
We spent a good 20 minutes admiring the view, climbing over rocks and taking pictures. We then headed over to The Grottos, which is approximately a 12 minute drive, for another short hike. As always, wishing you happy travels and fantastic adventures in this thing called life.
