A short walk (.4 mile RT) up a paved trail will lead you to the viewpoint.

The little peak in the center of the photo is called Manly Beacon and is one of the most photographed landmarks in the park.

If you stay long enough, you will be able to watch the color change taking place on the mountains, as the sun gets lower or higher in the sky. Near sunrise and sunset the pink shades of the rock will become more prominent.

Although much of the park is below sea level, Zabriskie Point has an elevation of 710 feet.

Looking at the landscape, it is easy to understand why NASA has used the park as training and testing grounds for their rovers. The park was also one of the filming locations for two Star Wars movies.

Zabriskie Point is most popular during sunrise or sunset, especially among photographers.

It is also the starting point for 4 trails. As our visit was during the summer, with temps over 100 degrees, we did not do any hiking.

If you do hike in the park, take the heat and flash flood warnings very seriously. The park is over 3 million acres, cell service is spotty and unreliable in many areas, there is little to no shade in the entire park and temperatures soar above 120 degrees.
Things to Know Before You Go:
- Zabriskie Point is a 15 minute drive from the Visitor Center.
- The path to the viewpoint is paved and wheelchair accessible. It does have a slight incline.
- There are vault toilets located in the parking lot.
- The entrance fee for the park is currently $30/car; the America the Beautiful Pass is accepted here, as well. Check here for the most current price.
- The park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- There are campgrounds and 4 hotels located in the park
- RV’s are allowed in the park.
